Story

In rural Mexico, women are central to society but not supported. They are constrained by social and economic inequality, scant communication tools, human rights violations, and abandonment. Our work empowers indigenous women to lead change in their communities. In Mexico, however, organizations like PSYDEH helping these women lack resources as well as the expertise on securing these resources. This campaign provides PSYDEH what it needs to continue our impact-making work.

Impact

With more capacity to generate resources we need to do our work, achieved through your donation, PSYDEH can educate more women-leaders to know their rights and how to use them. It means more women participating in electoral processes. It means more micro-economic projects produced and more field staff working personally to empower women as community leaders. Eventually, it means PSYDEH's work is no longer necessary in these communities and we replicate our model across Mexico and the Americas.

Challenge

Hidalgo is the 6th most marginalized state in Mexico. In PSYDEH's target rural region, almost 60% of indigenous women haven't completed 4th grade, and some 95% face discrimination and violence in the home, at school, and in politics. Women participate only nominally in civic society. They are not recognized as public problem-solvers or as having a valuable voice. Few lead in government. With major cuts in public funding in 2019, PSYDEH struggles to have the resources to sustain our impact.
