Support Children and Families in Ukraine
Story
With the acceleration of conflict in Ukraine, the number of people in humanitarian need has increased dramatically, with an estimated 12 million people in need of urgent support, including around 2.1 million children. As the conflict escalates, so do the needs of children and families. UNICEF's priority is to urgently scale up emergency preparedness and response across the country and wider region in order to meet the growing needs of children and families, including those on the move.
Impact
UNICEF urgently needs flexible funding to respond swiftly and effectively to the needs of children and families in Ukraine, and to prepare for the likelihood of refugee outflows into neighboring countries. Additionally, UNICEF and partners are providing access to education, emotional support, conflict resolution, and psychosocial support to ensure the continuation of critical services for children.
Challenge
Loss of life and severe destruction of key infrastructure in Ukraine has left hundreds of thousands of people without safe water or electricity. Children are terrified, in shock, and desperate for safety. They are being forced to seek refuge in subways and shelters, or to flee their homes to find safety either within Ukraine or in neighboring countries. Hundreds of thousands are on the move and many families are becoming separated. Most of those on the move are women and children.
