Story

The EcoHuella Farm supports indigenous farming communities in the Andes of Peru. We welcome and train hundreds of farmers in ecological production so they can grow healthier food, earn more money, and continue to be stewards of the land. Farmers take part in workshops that help them grow food more sustainably and sell their organic products to better markets. The demand for the educational opportunities at the farm are more than we can supply.

Impact

The long term goal of the project is to strengthen Andean farming culture. We will continue to offer resources for farmers to become more climate change resilient, productive, and sustainable. A consistent rate of ecological production provides economic stability while combating malnutrition in one of the poorest areas of Peru.

Challenge

The majority of farming education in the Andes emphasizes chemical heavy fertilizers and pesticides that are harmful to people and the environment. Farmers are dependent on purchasing chemical inputs at a high cost while chemical laden produce doesn't fetch a good price in the market. Marginalization and poverty are causing the amazing farming culture in the Andes to disappear.
